Kidston Island Past and Future Tour: paddle, hike, learn

Join Waterfront Baddeck for a tour to discover the island's historic sites, and see how we are planning for the island's future. This tour will begin with transportation from the Baddeck wharf to Kidston Island by boat or canoe.

Join in for 9:30 am or 1:00 pm starts by registering through eventbrite linked to the "register" tab below

You can either paddle over in a canoe supplied by the Explore the Bras d'Or, or hop aboard a boat supplied by a Waterfront Baddeck member. We'll pull up on the swimming beach and gather on the island to begin the tour.

Learn about the erosion monitoring programs Waterfront Baddeck has started on the north beach by the lighthouse.

Followed by a walk around the newly-refurbished trails including a historic homestead on Kidston Island.

When the tour is complete, we'll return to the boats or canoes and head back to the Baddeck wharf.

This is an active tour. You will ride in a boat or paddle a canoe (if you are able) about 0.5 km each way, and the walk will be about 2 km. The trails wind through the woods. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. For the safety of all, please plan to remain with the group during the tour. We will spend about 2 hours on Kidston Island, and it will take about 20 minutes each way to go to and from the island. Life jackets will be provided and must be worn on all boats.

Please bring your own snacks and drinks. There are no food services on Kidston Island. The toilets on the island may not be functional.

This event will proceed in the rain, but will be postponed if there is thunder and lightning.

This event is by donation for this tour will be used at Kidston Island for monitoring or signage.
