Kidston Island Forest Discovery Day
July 223:45 pm - 5:30 pm
Baddeck Warf
Rescheduled to Tuesday July 25th at 6:30 pm
Join Waterfront Baddeck for a tour to discover Kidston Island's forest ecology and learn some hands-on tree identification tips. This tour will begin on July 22, 2023 at 3:30 pm and end around 5:30 pm. Please note that the Kidston Island ferry service will have ended for the day when the tour starts.
This year, we are offering three ways to join the tour:
1) Use a canoe supplied by Explore the Bras d’Or. You and another person will paddle over to Kidston Island, which is about 0.5 km (about 7 minutes) each way. If this
is your first time in a canoe, we’ll give you instructions and accompany you there and back.
2) Take a seat on one of our boats. We’ll take you to the island’s new wharf from the Baddeck wharf.
3) Take your own boat and join us at the island. We’ll meet you on the island around 4:00 pm. Please do not park your boat in a location that will interfere with the Lion’s
Club ferry, which operates until 4:00 pm.
We'll pull up on the swimming beach and gather on the island to begin the tour.
We’ll enjoy a short walking tour of Kidston Island’s forest, and you’ll hear about how we are surveying
and cataloging the trees. We’ll show you some practical tips on how to identify trees. Learn which trees are best adapted to the different parts of the island and how that affects the ecosystem.
